CDC Stats show overdose deaths down 3% in 2023

The CDC's National Center for Health Statistics indicated there was an estimated 107,543 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2023 — a decrease of 3% from 2022. This is the first annual decrease in drug overdose deaths since 2018.

Illicit substance use is still a pressing issue. Raising awareness about recovering from substance use or a substance use disorder (SUD) and supporting those in recovery can play an important role in reducing drug overdose deaths in the U.S.
